The Rutledge Perspective Podcast

Welcome to The Rutledge Perspective Podcast where we help you get out of your rut or talk you back off the ledge. Surviving corporate America, or any career choice for that matter, is not easy; but it is doable with the right tools and insights. Using my expertise in human resources and consulting, I have curated content to address challenges that arise in the career and leadership space. We will discuss topics like knowing who is really in your corner, having the courage to speak out when something just isn’t right, investing in your own development with or without corporate sponsorship, choosing your words carefully and many other topics. I will also interview some interesting regular people who have made it through successfully. Life is way too amazing to be stuck in confusion and misery! Subscribe to the podcast, give us a rating, send me some comments (I really do use them for the development and improvement of content). Thank you for listening!

How are you going to spend your energy? That’s the question for this week’s show and it’s an important one because we ultimately get a choice on what we choose to give our energy to.

As a solopreneur and/or business owner, you would hope that your energy is going to first yourself but also to your team and into serving others. This is difficult when we get thrown off track due to dealing with incompetent individuals that over-promise and underdeliver. It’s these individuals that soak up so much of our energy that could be used in much more productive places.

Today, I’m going to walk you through how to deal with these people so that they don’t get in the way of your calling and what you were put on this earth to do. As a business owner, you can’t avoid outsourcing tasks, but you can control whom you outsource them to and how to govern yourself when people don’t hold up their end of the bargain!

🔑 Time is not renewable. If you’re spending all your time being angry, you don’t have that time to use on something that’s positive.

🔑 You have a choice in how you use your energy. You can use one minute to be irritated or use that one minute to move forward.

🔑 You can’t serve, be present, or make a lasting impact if your energy is going toward dealing with madness.

Acknowledge the things that are causing you to be angry and knocking you off your game. Make note of it, short-circuit your response in the moment, and intentionally decide how you’re going to address it.
